Digicel Launch Promotion of London Games with $10,000 Donation to Grenada Olympic Committee

Wednesday 16th May 2012 – St. George’s, Grenada: Digicel has officially launched its promotion for the London games with a donation of EC$10,000 to the Grenada Olympic Committee. As the Race to the London games begin in earnest, the cheque which is to aid the Association in their preparation to represent Grenada at the event was handed over at a ceremony on Wednesday held at Digicel office in Point Salines.

“The London games is an event that persons spend their lives training for and represents the ultimate in human athletic achievement hence Digicel’s support for the games, said Patricia Maher, Country Manager, “and with an outstanding Ambassador like Usain Bolt and brand support from Samsung, we trust that Grenadian athletes who have shown great talent and commitment would make us all proud in 2012.”

Digicel has several promotions aimed at encouraging support for the London Games and to encourage participation by Grenadians in one of the oldest and most spectacular sporting events in the world. These include:

Race to London Promotion
A Secondary School Essay Competition
A Primary School Art Competition
A Family Fun Day in Partnership with the Grenada Olympic Committee.

To ultimately qualify for entry a customer simply top up $15 or more, purchase Samsung handsets, sign up for a data bundle plan or pay your postpaid bill on time and they get a chance to win the grand prize of an Olympic Party for themselves and fifteen friends or Flat Screen Televisions, Samsung Handsets or Promotional Items.
The first 150 customers purchasing a Samsung handset automatically get a Samsung promotional item.

Secondary School Essay Competition
The Secondary School students Essay Competition is being done in association with the Ministry of Education. It calls for students to present an essay of 500 words or more on the topic “What would I take with me to the 2012 Olympics? One of the mandatory items is a Samsung Handset on the Digicel Network.
The first place winner will receive $500 cash, a Samsung S5830 and other promotional items.
Second place winner will get a Samsung Handset and promotional items as will the third place winner.

Primary School Art Competition
This initiative would once again be done in association with the Ministry of Youth Empowerment & Sports.
Primary School students are being encouraged to produce a drawing or painting depicting the 2012 Olympics. In the art produced both the Digicel and Samsung brands must be incorporated. The first place winner will receive $500 cash, a Samsung S5830 and other promotional items. Second and third place winners will get a Samsung Handset and promotional.

Family Fun Day Text Competition
The community with the most entries into the Family Fun Day text competition will have a community fun day event hosted by Digicel and the National Olympic Association. Persons simply have to text a short code with the name of their community and the community with the most text wins.

Olympic Race Days
During the games on race days, Digicel will in partnership with the local sports bars that are showing the games, have special promotion on the days of special races. These would include Fastest Fingers texting competitions, special top up offers and chances to win great prizes.
